factory light problem

HI, I have to make some factory installation renders, and to get realistic light I had to make array of lights on celling,… now it is perfect when I have to render details that need shadows from different light sources I do not want to have it when I render full installation. Is there any good way to replace this array with something and to get good lighting that will keep materials to look similar?

If I understood correctly, you want light but not shadow. It may do the trick if you use area light with unchecked visible to camera and shadow options and adjust the power as needed. And you can group the other light source and disable them or put then a different model set to control.

I do want shadows, I just need replacement for 125 lights that makes render take long time in to some more optimal solution for low details (when it is not close up camera… looking at whole plant for example) renders.

OK then area light is not haevy as others. If you want to see lights, you can separate the faces inside the geometri and and assign as material to these faces. You can export light model faces with different color (ex. inside Red outside blue) then you can easyly assign material at once.

I’m not sure I fully understand. But, I think you want to make an object or plane with that overall shape, model it to have holes to so it’s basically a net, or bring it in and add an opacity map using the “dots?” texture.
Then set it as an are light or a spot light. A spotlight might give you more ability to have it looking as several separate lights after playing with the beam angle.

I think I would do as Harry suggested, make a piece of geometry or if you want to do it in KS itself, just a few planes in the kind of + shape you’ve now, and turn them into area lights.

Won’t give you very detailed lighting but for global light it could be sufficient. I used it with a Dutch bicycle factory but only came across the issue that no matter if you deselect ‘visible in shadows’ they always cast a shadow even if it’s not visible for the camera. So that would make your ceiling look darker, but you might be able to fix it by making the ceiling lighter in general.
